The Story of Marble

Marble was originally mined by the ancient Greeks and continues today to be mined from quarries all over the world.

  • Step 1 – Formed in the Earth’s Surface
  • Step 2 – Mined from the Quarries
  • Step 3 – Cut into Slabs
  • Step 4 – Cracks Filled and Slab Polished

Marble is formed from calcite or dolomite crystals, which are subjected to extreme heat in the earth’s surface.

It is then mined from its quarry into blocks. If mined along its vein, it will produce a different look than marble that is mined cross-cut or across the vein.

The blocks are then taken to a processing plant where they are cut into shape for their desired purpose.

Resin will be applied to fill in the cracks. After polishing, less than 1% of the surface will retain the resin, producing a pure and unique piece of stone.
